Just a small heads-up, guys. I'm going to be DELETING a whole bunch of my resources hosted here, like the inking/hatching and the paneling ramblings, so it you'd like to keep them, grab them while you can! I'm going to be revamping ALL of them. I plan to make them updated, easier to read, and simpler. They'll be available in free booklets and PDFs on loomcomics.com shop. So, tell me your faves and those will go first.

News for July

Life. Life continues to be interesting. The last month and a half has brought both highs and lows.

Winning #HowDoYouCopic

First, some great news. Thanks to all of you, I won the #HowDoYouCopic contest. Thank you for putting up with the endless reblogs on my Copic video. With the $500, I bought new markers & replaced a hunk of damaged, secondhand ones. Thanks so much. I'm really indebted to all of you who shared my video on your social feeds.

I had wanted to get to work straight away posting tutorials and updates as a thank you! But on the day the Copics arrived...

My Twiggy

...something sad happened.  I went out to the studio, and about two hours into inking,  Erin came to get me at the Mill and said that Twiggy was dead.  My Twiggy.  Twigs was a rat terrier someone dumped at the end of our road. Back then, I washed her up and snuck her in the house.  She was such a nice dog...everyone loved her. I often posted pics of her to my social media.  She was my shadow.

No one knows quite what happened. She was lying by the window near her doggy bed and appeared to have suffered some kind of fall.  After talking to the vet, he thinks with her history that perhaps she had a heart attack and that's why her bed area was in disarray, because she might have panicked and struggled when it happened.

It was really hard to bury her that night.  She was my friend.

Twiggy the first day followed by one of my last picture sets of her.

Comic Apprenticeship

But back to life... I had to take things a bit slow to grieve. I tend to bottle things up like I'm made of stone, but eventually proper grieving happens.  Nonetheless, I'm trying to get back in the groove and continuing to learn how to ink with a brush.

It is really tough, especially getting the proper pattern and fine hairs down, but I like that.  I am currently learning to ink with a Scharff size 4 brush (fine line 3000) and aim to gain better control over contrast, pattern, and line.  I hope to share some of my progress on the loomcomics.com/blog in coming days. I'm enjoying specific, heavy-handed critique and I really hope it pushes me to improve myself in coming months.

Vampire Hunter Jude Trailer #1

How do you like it? I had wanted to make sure I got it released after winning #HowDoYouCopic. It's my thank you to all of you. It features the wonderful Mike Morris as Jude Hawthorne. I would really appreciate comments, likes, or sharing if you've got a minute!

News for June

Life. Hi, everyone! I know it's been a while, but I have a lot of exciting news! Some of you follow my newsletter, so you're probably already familiar with my shenanigans, but for the rest of you...

#HowDoYouCopic

#HowDoYouCopic Contest. I entered the #HowDoYouCopic contest. Yes, I showed my actual face in hopes I could win $500 worth of Copics. Most of my Copic markers are second-hand, busted, and taped together. So, YES I DO WANT!

Then, voting fraud started on their website, and I was sad. Copic cancelled their poll setup...in favor of Youtube views instead. I started Youtube at the end of May 2015...and some of the contest vids have been up since 2014 before contest was even announced.  I was even sadder then.

Cue me calling everyone I know and spamming my social media feeds to death (you're all lovely for putting up with me BTW). If you got a moment, GO LOOK AT IT & LIKE IT. I kinda need 28,000 views to win. I'm currently pushing 18,000, so it's kinda possible...by June 14th. O_O

YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT IT ON YOUTUBE FOR IT TO COUNT. CLICK THE YOUTUBE ICON IN THE BOTTOM RIIIIGHT!  Or click HERE.

Comic Apprenticeship

I'm a comics apprentice. No, really! I can hardly believe it myself. Guess what I did? I word-vomited onto two amazing comic artists that just moved near here and, "I want to be an apprentice," just sort of popped out. It's been a thought that's been chasing my brain, and then the filter between my mouth and brain just...mysteriously disappeared.

Days and many talks later, I've got two amazing mentors (Nathan Massengill, Kevin Stokes) and a Superpowered Studio to go and learn. I'm already super happy with the detailed critique I've gotten, and I'm already dreaming up new ways to push myself over the edge. Wow! I can't wait to improve under these two! I not-so-secretly sort of love being raked over the coals and drummed into new things (a leftover from my days as an ace pitcher, I guess), and I'm just so excited to get this kind of crit that I could explode!

I'll of course, chronicle my improvements on my blog, so definitely be on the lookout for more news!

News for March

Life. Hi, everyone! I love all of you and thanks for sticking by me. In the whirlwind time since Inkblazers went out in a blaze of glory, you've all been super encouraging. I'm still on the choo-choo train of job searching, doing odd jobs and freelance, upping the drafting and technical aspects of my portfolio, applying for internships, and in those moments of leisure time, working on site content. Oh, and I have flu. Perfect end to February, I suppose.  I'm mending. Huzzah!

Websites. The websites are up. I'll continue to add more exciting content as the days tick by. I'm especially excited about re-purposing all my dA art tutorials to be new, shiny, and updated with more examples and demonstrations. On top of that, I'll be dishing on my fave tools and doling out recommendations. Whee!

News for February

Hi, everyone! I hope you're doing well. I've been lying low in Internet-land in order to do a lot of job searching, up the drafting and technical aspects of my portfolio, and in those off-moments, work on getting my website functional. I haven't had as much time to dedicate as I like, but I hope to have it functional very soon; then, I can begin dishing on all my fave art supplies and Copic techniques in my art blog!

On the personal side, I took my grandmother out yesterday to celebrate our respective birthdays. She had a rough year filled with broken backs and septic infections, so I feel really blessed to have a brief moment in all the hectic stuff to spend some time with her. (She's artsy-crafty, so we get on really well!)

I also got a cute Epic Chaos Valentine goodie this week from the lovely :iconartbymelissam:.  I enjoyed it so much and you really brightened my day. Thanks, Mel!

Vampire Hunter Jude

Sneak peek of new branding mockup for Vampire Hunter Jude. First shot is a sketched sharpie mock and second is the final. It's a very similar look to the last logoform, but leans more towards Celtic than Gothic letterforms this. I incorporated a sweeping and sort of "bowing in" shape for Vampire as well.

Then, the new logo plus a stationery mockup to see how it works across objects.

Last image is the slider (more or less) I’ll use on Loomcomics.com to link to vampirehunterjude.com.

:iconogawaburukku: asked what this looked like a bit ago, so here it is. Thanks to :icontriaelf9: for her help. I hope you like it!
